Perhaps you have had a (second) home in Mahmutlar for some time and you think you know the entire village like the back of your hand. Still, there’s a chance that you don’t know the archaeological location of Mahmutlar. You have to know exactly how to get there - it's in the back of Mahmutlar, a few kilometres from the sea and a Turkish flag marks the location - the ruins are hidden behind banana plantations and in a swampy area. Moreover, this is a small location and is not really known to the general public.
What you can see here, are the remains of the city from the Roman and Byzantine period. If you look closely, you will be able to discover the remains of a church, a public bath and houses, but unfortunately these ruins are in very poor condition. It is believed that this decayed city by the sea was once a gateway to Laertes, which is further away, of which the remains have been better preserved.
